Why I like Apple’s mapping app.

A lot of people have been running down Apple’s entry into mapping apps. They’re saying place names are wrongly spelt, towns etc. are in the wrong places. I think these things make it a great app! It gives a smile to all with any kind of local knowledge.

Here’s my reason to smile. Previous to the advent of Apple maps our local High Street had a couple of Chinese takeaways, and Indian restaurant, a bakery, a tattooist, a newsagent, a dance school, a barbershop, a hairdresser, and an off licence. As you can see in the following image, our shopping options were rather limited.

But now, thanks to the miracle of Apple maps – who have kindly moved half of Southend High Street four miles east to Shoebury High Street – we have a veritable shopping mall right on our doorsteps! See below.

So thank you Apple maps for all the new shopping opportunities.
